FINCA ALLENDE RIOJA - 2003

Spanish red made from 100% unfiltered Tempranillo.

TASTING NOTES:

Rich, deep purple color with lots of oak, vanilla and tobacco on the nose. Blackberry notes and vibrant candied fruit on the palate that tastes like Sweet Tarts or Sugar Straws. Smooth tobacco and a sour cherry finish. Great acidity with a leathery mouthfeel.

Yum! This is delicious. The wine is great right out of the bottle and then changes and opens up as time passes. Just as good or better when tasted again a day later. Lingering finish and a wonderful nose. A fruit adventure. I like this wine a lot. For $20 this is great example of how dynamic Tempranillo can be.

  • You are absolutely right, dear friend. This kind of tempranillo's wine making is on the top of the Rioja wines, from my point of view. As you very well know, Miguel Ángel de Gregorio is one of our leading oenologist and his Rioja's wines rank between the most incredible experiences we can face concerning tempranillo wines: Finca Allende, the "humble" wine in De Gregorio's familiy, but also Calvario (normally between 50-60 euros), actually one of the three more interesting wines in La Rioja; and, finally, Aurus (excessevely expensive to mee: more than 100 euros per bottle!).
    All the best,
    Joan
    PS. Just returned from Italy!
