MUMM NV CORDON ROUGE BRUT CHAMPAGNE

A Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend from GH Mumm & Cie from Reims-France. This 12% alcohol sparkler is non vintage but the cork was stamped with year 2000. In the late nineteenth century, this champagne was decorated with the famous red ribbon, as a tribute to the Légion d'Honneur.

TASTING NOTES:

Pale golden color with citrus, bread, dough and yeast on both the nose and palate. Flavors of honey, caramel and sour apple are harmoniously balanced with a touch of acidity.

SCORE & RECOMMENDATION:

89 PTS
I opened this Champagne to ring in the new year. The nose was very alluring and the flavors echo the aromas. Complex, with a slight sweet-sour acidity, this is a well crafted Champagne with depth. Very enjoyable.

  • In the land of the "cava" (the Catalan Champagne), with very good labels know in the States, as Freixenet, Codorniu, and so, we are experiencing right now the rediscovery of the millésime's cavas from little but extremely interesting wineries as Gramona, Raventís i Blanc, Colet; and, at the same time, and thanks to a friend of mine, who frequently travels to France to discover "new" labels, wa are paradoxally drinking again champagne: Gatinois (Aÿ) and Pierre Peters (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) are the most excintig labels in Spain now.
    Cheers for the New Year!
