STUHLMULLER VINEYARDS CHARDONNAY - 2005

Alexander Valley, California Chardonnay with 14.3% alcohol.

TASTING NOTES:

Straw yellow color with caramel and oak on the nose. Flavors of caramel, butter, oak, smoke and spice accent this well-balanced white with muted fruit.

SCORE & RECOMMENDATION:

88 PTS
Not too interesting for a Chardonnay. Leans toward the over-oaked side of things with the fruit taking a backseat. Enjoyable and full-bodied. Pleasant but not extraordinary for $20 a bottle. Explore other Chardonnay options. There are a lot of other Chard options out there.

1 Comments:

  • The winemaker from Stuhlmuller, Leo Hansen, makes a fantastic Chenin Blanc worth seeking out (under the label Leo Steen). On the Chardonnay front, I'd highly recommend the Clos du Bois Calcaire Chardonnay . . . it just won a gold and swept the best in class award at the Sonoma County Fair.
